I really like your reasoning on this. I don't think it's such a big deal either. I think the manager was just very concerned of getting into trouble if such a situation were to happen. So no, you're not wrong to not care about something that you're not entirely responsible for (like you said, kids get hurt under almost any cirstances) and that is extremely unlikely in the first place.
